When people talk about joining a direct sales/social selling company, you’ll often hear discussions about finding your “why.” Some people have huge, emotional reasons (ever heard “if your why doesn’t make you cry, it’s not big enough”?). It doesn’t have to be that serious. It wasn’t for me. I wanted something fun.
When I first started dabbling in direct sales, I initially joined a company because I liked the products. I joined under a friend, a few weeks after she did. We really had no idea what we were doing but we knew we didn’t want to be spammy & gross. So, we found help from people who had been there before and a started to figure it all out. That’s also why I built this site. I wanted a no pressure place to share tips, tutorials, real talk, and resources to help people decide if Color Street is right for them – whether they shop, join my team, or not.
Not Every Opportunity Was the Right Fit
Like many people in direct sales/social selling, I’ve tried more than one company over the years. Some (like the first) were great experiences. Some were less than ideal. I learned something from each one – whether I was full on trying to sell something or “kitnapping” for personal use. During that time, I also learned social media skills, marketing basics, customer service, leadership and my confidence grew. And I met some amazing people.
Why I joined Color Street
Like I said, I wanted some fun. At the time, I thought I was super done with direct sales. A certain nameless clothing company had me tired. But then that same friend from before joined Color Street. I ordered to support her new gig (and because I trust her judgement). I’d always liked doing my nails. But Color Street took it to the next level for me. I never had the patience or talent for nail art. But I could have pretty nails in under 20 minutes? I wanted them all. I joined within a month of trying these dry nail polish strips. Then shared with others. And kept doing it.
Why I’m Still Here
I joined Color Street in 2018. Things look different now. Comp plans change. Some direct sales companies I’ve been a part of have closed or even relaunched. I don’t want to chase the next new, big/growing/whatever company. I don’t care about titles or what others are doing over there. I’m here because Color Street is still my favorite. I still love pretty nails and sharing. That’s enough for me.

Final Thoughts
If you’re considering a side hustle with a direct sales/social selling company, my advice is simple:
– Find something that genuinely interests you.
– Ask questions.
– Do your research.
And remember that success doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. Sometimes it’s not about changing your entire life. Sometimes it’s just about finding something that makes life a little more fun.
Whether you’re just curious about Color Street, thinking about joining, or simply looking for nail tips, I’m glad you’re here. Take a look around, grab a free sample, and don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.
